Maximus Caesar AE25 of Deultum, Thrace.

OBV: C IVL VER MAXIMVS CES Bare-headed and draped bust right.

REV: COL F L PAC DEVLT Concordia standing left with cornucopiae and patera over altar.

    REF: Varbanov 2454

I saw this coin appear on the market recently. The price wasn't bad, I also asked for a discount and I received. This coin is also my 80th Roman Imperial ruler, which includes Caesars, women, children, friends, etc. It took me since November 2011 to assemble this many on my low budget. So, I feel like it's a milestone of sorts. When I get to 100 I will definitely celebrate. lol

Right now the coin is on it's way in the mail system. I haven't had much luck with receiving coins lately. That's for another story someday. I have faith this one will arrive.

Sometime soon I will be making a post with what coins I have from the ERIC II list, that Steve typed out one day, I believe. Not to mention my Imperial grid.

Now, about the coin. If anyone wonders what the legends mean, I will explain. On the obverse of the coin says "C IVL VER MAXIMVS CES". Julius Verus Maximus Caesar. On the reverse is "COL FL PAC DEVLT" Colonia Flavius Pacensis (or Pacifica) Deultum. The goddess Fortuna is on the reverse of the coin. She is the goddess of fortune and luck, also similar to Tyche of the Greek pantheon.

There doesn't seem to be much information about Deultum. Wikipedia Copy and Paste.

Thanks a lot guys. I've edited this post a few times to update the book reference attribution. I don't have these books so I've been using online information.

Yep, this coin is #121 on the ERIC II rarity scale. So glad to find a decent one that I can afford.

Thanks Zumbly. It's been difficult to get here, but it's only going to get more difficult. lol

Gil, I have the Varbanov volumes. I'll double-check it for you tomorrow. I'm hitting the sack at the moment. Over and out.

Cool coin Gil. I myself really enjoy when I can get a ruler I don't have yet for cheap. I don't think I remember my 80th ruler lol.

Hey Gil, Varbanov 2454 is correct. However, he describes the bust as cuirassed as well, but I don't see a cuirass in the pic of the coin in the book. The drapery goes straight across Maximus' chest in three folds, with no sign of any underlying armor. I think it's Varbanov's mistake - your description of the bust is the accurate one.

I'm so happy I received the coin today. Thanks a lot JA for looking my coin up in the book. The attribution card has a different attribution.

COL FL PAC DEULT, Homonoia standing left wearing cathalus, holding patera and cornucopia, altar to left.

    REF: SNG Deultum 796

I took my own scanner photo and here is my current attribution.
