One of my group lots have arrived. I got 10 bronze coins from Syracuse. The top 4 are Hieron II coins with Posiedon on the obverse and the Trident and Dolphins on the reverse. The bottom six are Dionysus I Litras. Well 1 of them for sure is a Litra. 4 of them are either Litras or Hemilitrons (I'm probably just going to list them as Litras) and 1 for sure is a Hemiltron. What so you guys think?

I don't like to speak ill of someone else's purchases, but I will be blunt in this case. Are these some of the coins you plan to resell? If so, I can't imagine you will make much profit. I know I am a bottom feeder, but I would not give more than $5 each shipped. They are all in poor condition, and unless there is something rare that I do not see, they are not the kinds of coins I search to buy.

Yeah the condition on these coins looked better in the pictures but I realize now that there isnt much money to make here. I made a mistake with these but I'm still going to try. And it will be fun. It already has been fun getting them. If I do lose money it won't be too much.

I wish you all the luck. The coins pictured are in the kind of condition of coin lots I once purchased via Ebay. I gave up on them since I wasn't looking to buy for resale. I rarely look at lots any longer since the good lots can get very expensive (lots like TIF has purchased) or they are in the condition I do not want for my collection.

A couple of them have bronze disease. You might use them as practice for treating BD. You'll eventually come across a situation where one of your better pieces gets it, and it's good to know how to deal with it. (I'm curing a Trajan as that suddenly came down with leprosy myself.)

Start by brushing off the bright green stuff with a stiff nylon brush. Then soak them in distilled water (no other kind of water will do) for about two weeks. Then pick away as much as you can with a toothpick. Then the coins have to be dried thoroughly, and keep some silica gel packets in your box of coins to soak up humidity. If that doesn't clear it up, you've got to go to chemical solutions.

very good advice from JA, good BD treatment practice here.

I like to pick 'em, soak 'em 4 days...repeat until BD is gone (fresh water every time) or you're happy (or as happy as you're going to get).

a bake in the oven is a good drying method as well...I do 20 min at 200.

I like to wax low end bronze when I'm done...some people don' t dig it. I think it usually makes them look nicer. this step is totally optional.
