I picked this up at a very cheap price...

I was that the wildwinds example sold for $205. I think I got a super deal paying about 1/10th of that price

Some pay too much for coins. Some pay too little. On the $205 version was there more detail on the side that is blank here? To me this is a $20 coin but I suppose the best known might go a lot higher to a Byzantine collector who knows how few have both sides well detailed.

The photo makes your new coin look very "dramatic" ... I'm lovin' the sinister looks of the coin!!

Nice Andronicus III. I can never tell between him and his granddaddy Andronicus II. Late Byzantine bronzes are very scarce coins. THey stopped minting them effectively not long after this issue.

Cool coin anoob. I don't have a Byzantine from this era but want to get one eventually. I recently got my first Latin Empire trachy though.

Its funny, but I would wager gold coins from this period probably survive more than copper. It makes sense when you know what dire straits the empire was in though, and how much tribute they had to pay in gold. Shortly after this coin was struck, the Byzantines abandoned copper/gold coinage and switched over to straight silver until the end.

Of the 3 examples on wildwinds, 2 are "regular" and the third is a variation. One regular issue with nice detail sold for $125 (still and ugly coin though). Mine iMHO in a $20 coin, but hey, its the only coin of its type and period that I have. Thanks guys for your contributions.
