Great choices! These are the kinds of coins that really pique my interest. I'm assuming the counter-stamps have to do with Roman occupation during Severus' reign, correct?

Correcto mi amigo... Severus did some crazy things there at that time... I had a quite large collection of these large Bosporus coins, often referred to as 'sestertius'. Sold them a few years ago, and now back hunting ;-) Just love the style of these bronzes !

The Bosporan Kingdom was the longest surviving Roman client kingdom. It was a Roman province from 63 to 68, under Emperor Nero. The 1st and 2nd centuries BCE saw a period of renewed golden age of the Bosporan state. In the end of the 2nd century, the King Sauromates II inflicted a critical defeat to the Scyths and included all the territories of the Crimea in the structure of his state.

The Bosporan Kingdom was centred around the straight between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Thanks. I've only started studying the history of this region and its coinage on account of buying that Pantikapaion bronze a few days ago.

I love the little Greek bronzes - they look great even in F because they had nice high profiles to begin with.

I have nothing from this Province, but from what you have showed off before these guys had some really serious bronzes. These two coins are no exception. I think these all have really neat style. I also have never before seen a coin with a countermark of the emperors bust. I bet the SS guys are gonna go nuts when they see these. Well done Steve. Although I must say, your coins always over the top- in one way or anther., your taste is impeccable.

I must admit to never having seen these counterstamps before. Very interesting indeed. It's nice to see something I have never seen before.
