The "first" anything is cool. I am eager to also hear the history behind the coin. It doesn't appear to me much, but as we all know what something appears to be and what it really is, are totally different things. Good pick up, can't wait to see what else you come up with.

Cool coin man. IDK about "first bronze coin" since they were making them earlier than that I believe, but still early and a very interesting piece.

I always thought one of those cast copper "ox hides" would be a fabulous piece to own, but I have never seen one for sale. Its not a coin per say, but a pre-currency proto money.

That was in the CNG auction, wasn't it?

Wonderful example. I don't have one which makes my triens lonely. I have the eagle but the crab requires faith to see. I'll challenge you to find a larger denomination with good detail on all three sides. If you do, buy it.

almost made my oldest coin look like a baby. ALMOST my oldest was made a few hundred years later.

Interesting. They very well could be right, I just thought in Greece they had already struck bronze by this time.

Again very cool coin. I was not really aware of them. I was able to see a fantastic selection of early roman bronzes from Davissons at the MN recently. About a dozen, each F+ and about 1.5 inches thick. Spectacular pieces.
