Following the chiefs wishes (read wife's commands) I had to take most of the coins I keep at home back to the bank. While doing so I re-discovered this coin which I almost forgot I had. In fact, I thought I had lost it, and was very relieved to find it. It is an As of Trajan, with reverse Trajan being crowned by Victoria. For some reason I really like this coin. It shows great detail, even expression of the faces of the tiny figures, and it clearly shows the emperor with a muscular body (breast armor). Ancient equivalent of a six-pack i guess? No matter how many pictures of it I take, I just can't capture how appealing this coin is. The pictures show a grainy surface and dull green color - it has neither. Well, I thought I would show it to you guys anyway. Hope you like.
That really is a nice coin! You can send it to me and I'll try to take some pictures. Might take a year or ten
It's a fantastic coin! We experience our coins in three dimensions, handle them, look them over in various lights, etc. No two-dimensional photo can adequately capture the beauty of a nice piece, especially if it has a complex patina, as yours seems to exhibit. Fortunately, you're showing the coin to people that also own ancient coins, and we have the experience to imagine just how lovely it must be in hand.
First, let me say this is a very nice coin and I'm glad you were able to find it. Second, I think we have all experienced the fact that our coins generally look better in hand than on an image. Some of us can take great photos, but, even then, I would be willing to bet the coins still look better in hand. I think you have presented a very nice image of a beautiful coin.
Eduard => I think that your coin has super eye-appeal, so if you're telling me that the coin looks even better in hand then congrats, brother!! (super coin)
It looks like a lovely coin but I have coins that defied my photo efforts on the first dozen attempts. I just keep trying different ideas and some get better. Some are still in the works.
