So I havent bought a new roman republic in almost a year, this coin had caught my eye on the last Vauction session only because it was like a relative to my L. Valerius Flaccus, C. Valerius Flaccus. Look up C. Valerius Flaccus in google, historical figure too! C. Valerius Flaccus 82 B.C. AR Denarius O: Winged bust of Victory right. R: C VA. FLA IMPERAT / EX - S.C., Aquila between two signa inscribed H (Hastati) and P (Principes). Rome 3.5g 18.97mm Crawford 365/1b, Valeria 12b, Syd 747b Ex. Madroosi collection Ex. VAuctions Sale 304, Lot 280
Here is the older cousin. Still a favorite. L. Valerius Flaccus, (108 - 107 B.C.) AR Denarius O: Winged and draped bust of Victory right, X below chin. R: LVALERI / FLACCI (downwards on left), Mars walking left, spear in right, trophy in left over shoulder, apex left, head of grain behind. SRCV I 183, Sydenham 565, Crawford 306/1, RSC I Valeria 11 Rome Mint 20.0mm 3.89g
I see we have another Madroosi family coin that makes three of us. i took a hard look at this coin, i wanted to get a winged reverse, but i had my eye on the JC coin. both of your coins are very nice.
I've commented before on your older coin (which I like very much), but your newest coin is the bomb as my niece might say. I love the Aquila even though it looks like a duck. Congrats my friend.
Thanks for the comments, and YES! it does look like a duck. It was the first thing I saw & thought when I viewed it. It was only me and another bidder, didnt generate much activity.
