Greetings. I chose to post these 4 newly- acquired coins because they could possibly detect the differences or new find- outs among Roman coins figuring the series of fallen horsemen. many collectors and researchers including fellow member DougSmith are now following up this series. Appreciate any comment on this set of Four. Thanks.. Charles
As common as these are, I have a warm place in my heart for them. A Falling Horseman was the first ancient coin I collected. Here's one of the better ones I've come across, an issue of Constantius Gallus. It's better to look for AE2 specimens if you want the complete details of the scene...
more nice looking coin. i would be tempted to clean up the second from the left a bit, the desert is nice...but may be a bit overly sandy and obscuring some details...like the mint mark. that's a nice one also JA.
They have the look as being from the same hoard even thought the 3rd and 4th are not Antioch. These coins circulated and mixed. The Cyzicus and Nicomedia are no more special unless you are trying to collect the set which almost no one is. Antiochs tend to be well made coins compared to some so the better quality offsets their being common. There are very few really premium items in the FH series and a few of us will pay bit more for some numbers but most people seem to believe a horseman is a horseman and care little for the details. I'm always watching for the chance to improve my Trier and Amiens holdings but the only FH that really is special is the Magnentius issue. The Kneeling pose (FH1) is less common and coins of Constans are a little scarcer but these have to be a lot nicer than the ones shown to excite demand.
