Ancient Mixed Coin

    Hi. The reverse of this coin figures clearly Latin letters and numbers on top. But on right of the same reverse ( to viewer ) there are clearly Arabic letters. What is this ?? .
    As for the obverse, there seems to be like a king putting his hand on his sword around his belly. I hope this coin is strangely genuine. Please propose your comments and suggestions. Thanks a lot friends. Charles An mix R.jpg An mix O.jpg

    Is this one of the Islamic copies of a Byzantine issue that followed their taking over a mint? The reverse looks like a cross on steps but de-Christianized by changing the crossbar to a loop.

    Yes, its an Arab-Byzantine coin of the Standing Caliph type. These were made in the early days of Islam, after the Islamic armies defeated Byzantine areas and before they implemented their own type of coinage. They also made Arab-Sassanian coins in Sassanid styles, as well as Arab-Bukharan coins of Bukharan styles.

    hu...that's a weird and interesting coin. i would have guessed it was some type of fantasy piece or something.
