Ancient: Lucius Verus Provincial

    Lucius Verus.
    Augusta Traiana, Thrace. 161-169 AD.
    AE 18-19. 3.9 grams.
    Obv: ΑΥ ΚΑΙ Λ ΑΥΡΗΛΙΟΣ ΟΥΗΡΟΣ. Bare head of Lucius Verus right.
    Rev: ΑΥΓΟΥΣΤΗΣ ΤΡΑΙΑΝΗΣ. Tripod entwined by serpent, head, right.
    Ref: RPC Temporary #10348. Augusta Traiana Type 103. One known specimen: Griechisches Munzwerk, Staatelich Museum, Berlin (acq. 1900-1928).

    Unrecorded in literature consulted. Provisional reference provided by Oxford/Ashmolean Museum's "Roman Provincial Coinage Online" project. http://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/coins/10348/

    If anyone has seen other examples of this, please share--I would love to seem them! I'm always excited when I find a coin that I've not seen elsewhere, or know of only a few existing examples. (Has happened to me 5-6 times in 27 years now.)

    I don't mean to double-post, but I did put the same images of coin up in "What's it Worth?" as well. It's iffy, I think, so I'll take one of the posts down immediately or appropriately modify if someone asks or finds it inappropriate. But for this forum, I'm trying to keep it to: "I'm sharing a great find I made in a bulk purchase of cheap Roman Coins!"
