As I stated on another thread, I recently obtained this Roman Republic AR Denarius. I hadn't seen one like it until Cucumbor posted his excellent example (you should post it again here Cuc). As Cuc said, it would appear that Juno is throwing with her right arm while the spear is positioned behind her head on the left. An example on wildwinds shows the spear body on the right side. I also like the "witches" shoes.

I didn't realize they had cellos back then. What? That's a shield??

    Seriously though, very nice coin.

Fabulous coin! Speaking of cellos, string instruments evolved from the bow and arrow. Someone in the distant past discovered that rubbing the arrow across the taut gut-string of the bow created a sound. The long evolution from that realization to the cello is simply a history of mechanical elaboration.

I think this makes 45 RR coins in my collection not counting the Imperatorial coins. Although I have purchased some of the more common "biga/quadriga" coins, I generally look for the reverses with a story to tell.

Here you are Bing. As a side note I'm really jealous, my example lacking the witches shoes...

Thanks VK. However, some of the more "common" types can be very beautiful. I'm saying that here cause I just got another one.

My first thought is who would possibly make fun of a cellist with snake, spear and witchy shoes but showing up wearing a goat skin head dress is probably going to bring out the mean comments in any middle school.

Bing: How many 'good' republican types would you say there are? You have to be a specialist to want a full set of chariots and Roma heads but most of us could want a defensive cellist. I have more chariots than I really need and have not been buying more unless they have something special (like the one where the chariot is pulled by two snakes). I'm going to a show tomorrow and lately have been coming home with one Republican per show on average. I'm concerned that I'm running out of common (cheap) ones left to hope I'll find.

those are awesome also...dang. you're all making it hard for me to stay on the wagon.

does juno have a little tail? i assume that part of her goat skin attire probably.
