Latest addition to my collection is a Julia Soaemias with Venus Standing reverse. I already have the seated Venus. I have wanted to do a side set of silver for her, similar to my finished Lucilla & Crispina. Now I just need Juno, which Doug S has of, and its fairly scarce. JULIA SOAEMIAS (218 - 222 A.D.) AR Denarius O: IVLIA SOEMIAS AVG, draped bust right. R: VENVS CAELESTIS, Venus standing facing, head left, holding apple and sceptre; star in right field. Rome Mint 18mm 2.9g RIC IV 241 (Elagabalus); BMCRE 45; RSC 8.
Your new coin makes her out to have a pig nose. And mine below makes her look like a bug eyed prune with a double chin: JULIA MAESA AR Denarius OBVERSE: IVLIA MAESA AVG - Draped bust right REVERSE: PVDICITIA - Pudicitia seated left, pulling veil and holding scepter Struck at Rome, 218-222 AD 2.6g, 19mm RIC 268, BMC 76 (Elagabalus), S 7756, C 36
Very nice! All of her denarii seem scarce to me, but particularly Juno - in fact, the only one I've seen is on her wiki page.
My maesas can be found in the search, one I posted is my other Julia S. But the OP Julia, its got some worn die looks to it, nose is affected.
Nice coin. The princess does look like she needs a consultation with a Beverley Hills plastic surgeon...take care of that Turkey neck.
nice lookin' denarius mat...i seriously can't keep all the julias straight. so julia s. was elagablaus's mom, julia m. julia s.'s mom. i do have a julia maesa.
