    I saw this coin for $30 (well, $44 after tax and shipping), so I took a chance and picked-off another Roman Ruler ...

    => it seemed like a fair price?

    It's about time you got back to Roman Imperials. Nice coin with great details. Love those big heads.

    How is yours different from my coins I have listed as RIC 6 page 543? I am away from home and RIC at the moment. Yours is nicer and has the broad head so it is worth more than mine by what you paid IMHO. The style is nothing alike. I'll have to look them up when I get home.

    I agree. I love coins like yours Steve, what Doug terms "broad head" I call "stylized head". I buy them occasionally on a whim, but like yours more than Doug's more artistically correct obverse.

    Best compliment I can give you is I would have bought it if I saw it first. :)

    Me, too. I looked it up in RIC and found that I don't know enough to be sure. If I am right, Steve's coin is (by portrait style) earlier than mine and found in volume VI while mine is later and in volume VII. The dividing line is given as when Maximinus took Heraclea. RIC authors said so little on the split that I doubt they cared but someone told them that was a good place to separate the volumes. Obviously I am missing something here but I wonder if it is a matter so obvious that the RIC authors took it for granted or have we just plain made a mistake on cataloging these coins. I do not know who to ask. Who is an expert in 313 Licinius? I asked Steve and that went so poorly that he was driven into hiding. Who else wants to research this one?

    Okay fine, here is what I think is goin' on:

    Bust = 6
    Obverse = 8
    Reverse = 30
    Type = 36
    Mint = 6

    => that produces a few possibilities which vary due to the symbol found to the right of Jupiter (in this case it looks like a Delta)

    So, when I go scanning through ERIC-II, I find that there are two possibilities:

    RIC 6 (VII, Heraclea) => 313-314
    RIC 73 (VI, Heraclea) => Jan-Feb 313

    Sadly, that is when I toss my papers up into the air, stomp my feet and scream

    => "I'm goin' to the bar!!"
