I'm not an ancient coin collector, but know many CT members are, so wanted to give a heads-up on this auction. I've never dealt with this auction house before but wanted to pass this on to others. https://www.liveauctioneers.com/search/?keyword=ancient coins&sort=-relevance&status=online Here is a lot of 26 Roman coins. https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/88449182_a-set-of-26-ancient-roman-coins
Most of the LRB's are junk and they also have buyer's premium, from what I saw, 18-22%. These auctions seemed geared for people that don't know anything about ancients.
I would feel guily if I sold those to someone for more than $1 a piece and the buyers premium is 28%.
I would agree with what Victor said except for the word 'most'. These make you appreciate eBay. For those who want to start in ancients: start by hanging around here and learning the difference between the good and the bad (and where to get them).
Depending on who the actual seller is, most in this auction were highly overpriced and had inflated self grades, but it is what it is and I just wanted to let others know what's out there.
Some decent coins in the large lot - the Severus Alexander is pretty nice, and the Aurelian is nice. But IDK about that price.
Aside from the help with IDs this is the type of information I have found mode useful since joining. In fact I wouldn't have needed as much help with one of the coins I bought had I spent my money more wisely. The cheapest coins out there attract the beginners but in reality can only be identified by experts.
The offerings from Palmyra Heritage Gallery(starting on pg. 9 & cont. pg. 10) pique some interest, but I grumble a little when the 'opening price' is at (or very near to) what the hammer might bring. I'm a bargain hunter, and my pockets are only so deep.
Hi, Several are on eBay for 2-4 times the price as starting price. I doubt they will go for less on this site. - Broucheion
I always used to make an to offer to Morris Khouli of palmyraheritage. And we often made an arrangement.
