Latest addition is a Caracalla I got in a trade from Curtis Clay for that Emesa Severus that was posted awhile ago. Great silver & heavy too! Caracalla (198 - 217 A.D.) AR Denarius O: ANTONINVS PIVS AVG, Laureate head right. R: VOTA SVSCEPTA X, Caracalla standing left, sacrificing over altar. 3.72g 19mm RIC IV 179, Cohen 689, BMCRE V 524
You mean something like this??? Let me know when you have another Emesa rarity to trade. Teen portraits as Caesar are harder to find than the younger coins. What is really hard to find is a teen Caracalla where he doesn't have a blank stare, empty expression or awkward look. Part of this is the boy and part may be that the workmanship of the mint overall was less good in the mid-200's.
Mat awesome Caracalla, great color and weight...very nice.. Mine came from jw, i think he wants it back, one of my nicest Denarius..
I also like this oldest of the youth period with the sideburns. They are not as easy to find as the kids or snarling adult coins. My only one has a poor reverse but I liked the portrait enought to buy it anyway.
Caracalla, eh? ... well, I hope that I'm allowed to toss-in my antoninianus example ... Caracalla AR Antoninianus Rome mint 198-217 A.D. Struck AD 215 Diameter: 24 mm Weight: 5.19 grams Obverse: Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right Reverse: Radiate / Luna driving biga of oxen left Reference: RIC IV 256c; RSC 294a Other: 6h ... darkly toned, light porosity and deposits. Scarce
