    400-300 BC = 26 coins
    300-200 BC = 12 coins
    200-100 BC = 19 coins
    100-0 BC = 18 coins
    0 BC-100AD = 7 coins
    100-200 AD = 11 coins
    200-300 AD = 26 coins
    300-400 AD = 13 coins

    500-600 AD = 1 coin
    600-700 AD = 2 coins
    OTHER < 1600 = 2 coins

    a) approximately how many ancient coins do you have in your collection

    b) and if you have time, what are your approximate splits?

That's interesting ... and I guess it's probably fairly typical for us slightly less "highly-focused" collectors?

=> I love the fact that I meander all over the board and collect a bit from column A and a bit from column B, but I also think it is very cool that some of you get drawn-in and collect a very "tight" grouping (yup, that's what makes us tick, eh?) ... thank God we don't all want the same coins!!

hey, thanks for participating ... I am finding this thread very interesting (you brothers "Rock"!!)

Ummm, well there seems to be a couple of "clusters" forming, but we still need far more votes to determine some really sound results!!

=> so please vote ... vote and leave comments if you want, but "plesae" at least "vote"

Hmmm, I kinda wish that I didn't allow multiple-votes => it definitely smoothes-out the curve!! ... but perhaps it makes it seem like there are more voters, right?

=> VOTE, my ancient brothers, vote!!

Great thread! Helps me to focus on new areas of expansion.

    36 Ancients; all Roman

    200-100 BC = 1
    100-0 BC = 0
    0 BC-100AD = 2
    100-200 AD = 5
    200-300 AD = 19
    300-400 AD = 9

Most of my coins are in the 200-300 AD range, but my real area of interest is the 100-200 AD range. I'm going to try and knock out a "Five Good Emperors" set. Got three of 'em so far.

400-600 AD is my area of interest, followed by 360-400 AD and 600-800 AD. Late Roman/Germanic are what I mainly collect.

I have 554 coins, and I do not have it filed in a way that makes it easy to count by century. Here is what I do know:

    600-500 BC = 0
    500-400 BC = 4
    400-300 BC = 15
    300-200 BC = 7
    200-100 BC = 14
    100-0 BC = 53
    0 BC-100AD = 62
    100-200 AD = 59

The rest are most 3rd and 4th Century. But I also think many of you know my main interest lies in the 200 years between 100BC and 100 AD.

    Seriously. Count how many?

Its like Steve just doesn't know me at all. :(

So, assuming I could, what would be included in such a count? Chinese cash? Medieval European, SE Asian? Uncleaned ancients?

    ahaha => man-up!!

medoraman, my friend => I have zero-idea how old you are, but for whatever reason I assume that you're obviously more experienced in ancient coins than I am, yet you are "probably" younger in age than myself? (but may be wrong?)

=> oh and honestly, I could give a dung-heap how many coins you actually have, but in this scenario, I'm kinda doing a survey (but if you want, you can be that guy) ...

Not counting uncleaned, nor medieval chinese or similar, or world or US, maybe 3k? I am light in the 6th thru 3rd century bc, just 5 or so per century, but get into hundreds per century starting second century bc. Heaviest may be first century bc, fourth ad, and seventh century ad for various reasons.

    Best guesstimate.

Btw i am 44 but might have doing this a touch longer. :) I am no boy genius like Bill.

Edit: Just thought about it and i lied. I have a heck of a lot more third century bc than five. Frickin Ptolemies.
