Analyzing eBay photos

    How do you analyze eBay seller photos if/when you search for coins? I'm having a hard time determining wear on the highest points of coins and determining if I see cartwheel luster or just strong lighting on certain pictures. Spotting cleaned coins is also a challenge as well. The right angle coupled with a professional photographer can make any cleaned coin appear to have some luster. :confused:

    Yes, and many less than scrupulous sellers use this to their advantage quite effectively

    Simply put you can't. A computer monitor isn't good enough to really let you grade above AU and even AU is questionable. Luster can't really be judged without tipping the coin back and forth under a point source light. You might catch flash with a single two dimensional image but not luster.
