I sent a 1988 Silver Eagle in to Anacs to get graded. They sent me a free coupon to get my coin slabbed because they took way too long for my gold pieces I sent to them in feb. Good on them for doing that. So this "free coupon" was for a 5 Day return. I sent the coin in APRIL and now it is the end of June. I called them and they said it was because they accidently put it in for the economy submission which that most of you know takes quite awhile. This is the 3rd time they have messed with my coins. I even recieved a call from James Taylor himself telling me he is sorry for the confusion. Should I still go with ANACS? Here is the best thing. I sent that 88 Silver eagle in and it was the best Silver Eagle I have ever seen!! I looked it over with a loupe and a microscope and didn't see a blemish on the thing. It came back MS69. Does anyone know if Anacs is the lowest of the TPG's to slab an MS-70? I appreciate all of your help. Thanks Tom

nor have I, an anacs ms70 would be an amazing coin, they just don't give them out all that often (if ever).

Well I know of at least 2 70's from ANACS....I posted photos of one here a few months ago---in US COIN FORUM---it was a ebay auction of a 1/10 ounce gold piece....and it was MS70....and I heard of a PROOF coin on the PCGS forum getting the 70 grade.

Ever since James Taylor arrived at ANACS, I have seen a lot of MS/PF-70 coins in their holders. Strangely enough, they have all been sold by Finest Known Inc on Ebay.

ANACS is/was scared to hand out a 70 grade for liability reasons. Although, I guess if you hand out enough 70's (NGC) people won't take the 70 grade seriously and will not pay 70 money.

Don't blame them on the ms 70 thing. That grade has become WAY to common.

MS70 is supposed to be perfection, perfection doesn't ever occur occasionally, perfection is rarer than rare. It is the coin grading essence of flawlessness, IMO I have never seen an MS70 coin

are there any milk spots on the coin? That limits it to a 68.

Am in the process of my first ever dealing with ANACS so will let you know if they're getting better at that kind of thing, lol. Nobody can bat 1.000 all of the time. From hearing about other peoples dealings, it seems they're no better or worse than other graders, customer service-wise. For the most part it seems a lot more people are happy with them than not; they wouldn't stay in business otherwise. Every once in a while somebody falls into the cracks but they seem to be pretty decent for the most part, from what I've heard from others. I've only dealt with them once directly nad haven't had a problem with them yet.

As for not getting 70... it seems that most of the top graders are pretty stingy about giving out 70's. If it was too easy to get graded as perfect nobody would take the grade seriously. I've seen very few 70's from ANACS or PCGS... though SGS seems like they're not afraid to give out the 70 grade, lol...

SGS sucks, ill stop at that one. I have a feeling if I cracked this coin out of its MS69 anacs holder it would get a 70 from PCGS or NGC. It is that good. The difference between a 1988 MS69 and a MS70 Silver eagle is thousands of dollars.

This eagle is the best I have ever seen for the year as well!! I will post pictures when I return from deployment in Sept.

In my view PCGS and ANACS are the same when it comes to playing with the MS/PF-70 grade. I feel that they both only give 70's to big submiters.

There is absoulutely nothing wrong with this coin. I looked through a microscope as well as a 12X loupe. Not a scratch or blemish on this baby. I would never slab a Silver Eagle unless it was the 95 proof. You know what I mean?

There is a trick to getting coins graded 70 at the services. It's not available only to the big submitters. The coin quality has to be there, but there is more to it than that.... BULK GRADING :)

As for ANACS, they now hand out the grade of 70 somewhat frequently. Before they never gave out 70 since their opinion was the grade was theoretical. Now it is a working grade. Coins in their slabs graded 70 bring very little. They have the same respect at ICG for the 70 grade.
