I got a offer today for free grading for 2 coins at anacs. Sadly, even with free grading I cant seem to pull the trigger. I just dont think its worth it.

I suppose anyone can take advantage of the coupon. It is a generic coupon code

I agree, not worth it even free... Just one man's opinion.

on second thought I believe you are right. I find that NTC grades much better than ANACS and they are basically an unknown in the industry.

Like it or not, ANACS has both a place and purpose, even if only for certain varieties that the top two won't label.

What?? You don't think it's worth it? Stop and smell the roses every once in a while--free is free and you might like grade that comes back on the coin you send in----no matter what a good deal is a good deal--

I think im going to do it. But I have reasons.
It would be my first time grading coin(s) so it would be a good trial run.
I only have to pay shipping so if the coin grades stink no big deal
I could always crack them out of the slab if I want to get it graded by a better service
But idk what I would choose... you guys will help me
    I have a high grade 1959 cent
    " " 1959 half
    " " 1964 half
    " " 1944 S Merc Dim
" " 2009 ddr cent (the one where he is reading the book)
    " " 1949 booker t Washington half

Why is that? Is ANACS sub-par or are you just against grading and encapsulation? I am new to graded coins, which is all I buy now.

I ONLY buy graded coins, but only from NGC and PCGS. I currently have in my possession several generations of ANACS holders from @Mainebill, and these holders are ugly and don't stack well, and most consider it a 2nd tier grading service. Their coins are discounted in the marketplace, so when it comes times to sell, you are far better off in NGC or PCGS plastic. There are plenty of threads here on CT about ANACS if you care to read through it all. The simple fact is, you are simply much better off picking one of the "tier 1" TPG, either PCGS or NGC. I use and like both.

Thanks for the info. I knew that ICG and ANACS were not the same caliber. I recently purchased two VAM Morgans graded MS-63 each by ANACS. When I set them side by side and looked with my loop, the MS-63 grade on one of them did not seem consistent with the better of the two. I immediately thought "this is what they mean when they say that ANACS is not the same quality as PCGS." Even as a novice grader, that coin didn't look like a 63...

...Either way, I am going to get my two complimentary gradings if possible.:D;)

I'd still use ANACS for authentication . I might send them a Trade dollar I bought raw and a really nice '14-D 1/4 eagle also bought raw
when I resumed collecting about 30 years ago .
