So I'm not a member of the ANA, I guess my question is should I be? What are the benefits to being a member, do they have an specials for first time enrollment?
Tater - I am a member for three reasons: 1. Subscribe to the monthly Numismatist magazine which is excellent 2. Access to their library (I haven't used it yet, though) 3. Support the life/professionalism of the hobby (noble yes, but my membership fee is a small contribution)
They do offer specials for first time members sometimes. It is usually something like the Redbook or of similar value. The membership is $36 per year. Even a lower middle class guy like me can afford that. They have a great magazine, which I read cover to cover every month. The benefits are like any club, most you won't use. I would use the ANA Library membership though. Who has the room or money for all those books anyway?
I guess it depends what you call good info. It has excellent info on new issues, current U.S. mint news, and some history. Most of the articles aren't very long, so they are perfect for the nightstand. My favorite column is always by Jerry Cestkowski. He never fails to make me laugh with his creative sense of humor. Surprisingly, they do feature articles on foreign coins regularly. I am not a fan, but I do read them. Many times I really am envious of coinage designs other countries have to offer.
I'm a member , the Numismatist alone is worh the membership fees , The library , their courses and books which members get a great discount , and knowing you are helping YNs , no there is no first time discount I'm aware of . rzage
