So, the new Board of the ANA is off to a great start! http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=3096 Post your comments to numismatic News, and congratulate the new Board for their courage to act.
I was seriously waiting for this to happen. Maybe he should have focused LESS on suing people and focused MORE on the ANA.
As a new member to the hobby, I haven't been privy to news regarding the ANA. I've actually been considering joining until I read this thread. Can someone provide a quick synopsis of what the major arguments dealers/collectors have with the ANA, and whether or not you would recommend joining at this point? Thanks.
TC: I stated that I would join if Horton (previous Presidnet) and Cipoletti were ousted. So, I joined at the ANA in Milwaukee, with the ouster of Horton. I talked to some Board memebrs and just got the feeling that his (Cipoletti) time was numbered. Now is the time, and tell them that you joined becausse they are both gone! Horton caused more trouble in two years than occurred in the previous 100 years. Lost membership. Ousted a Board member without just cause. Started a fight over naming rights of the museum, changed the rules after they got the money. Nasty to members, per Coin World & Numismatic News letters. Too many other items to enumerate from memory. Cipoletti was a pompus jerk. He was power hungry and did what ever he wanted to do, imagine getting paid $250,000+ a year and then they give him an award at the Banquet -- for doing his job. I am sure that others can add more... But the bottom line is that all of the Board were ousted and now it is time for a lot of changes.
From all I've read about the negative view of ANA here as well as other sites this news will be well received !!! The new Board appears to be have a new agenda that is much more positive to its membership !!!
This is a great step. He has cost the ANA so much money chasing frivilous law suits. Plus, he is not a numismatist, nor even a coin guy......he doesn't know the first thing about coins.
