@coinzip Are they silver, Alan? Where did you find them? During the years 1969-1982, the ANA issued a limited number of 3-medal sets for the National Convention each year. Each set included a 38mm silver medal, a 38mm bronze medal and a 19mm bronze medal. I first saw the 1969 set in 2005 and fell in love with it because it included Frank Gasparro's rendition of Libertas Americana. When I learned that the 3-medal sets were limited to those years only, I decided to build this "short set" and hopefully submit them for grading by NGC. It took me more than 6 years to complete the set, but it took me almost 8 years to convince NGC to accept them for grading. Chris
Recently the medals have been done by the host club. I have the Portlandia set from last year, but no photos.
If you're interested in viewing the 1969-1982 medals, here is the link. I want to thank Bob Campbell @robec for imaging them. http://www.robecsimages.com/chris.html Chris
I picked them up at a show, out of a dealer's junk bin... I don't think they are silver, just kinda cool.
Might be pewter. At least the Merc one. Our Morgan dollar class at summer seminar got to use the 7 ton screw press at the ana money museum to strike our own coins and errors. I'll pull the brockage and multi capped die ones I have out and post them here. Then at the dinner banquet on the last night we were all given a special ana shield nickel. Stay tuned...
Yeah I just noticed that while taking the pics. Good thing I'm not a shield nickel guy or I may have wanted the rays. The ana press errors were a true gift though. Getting to roll the stock, punch the blank, upset the rim then fling the press bar was awesome. The only strike error we weren't allowed to produce was a clashed die for some reason lol Did you get the rays or were you there 2nd week badger?
Duh. I should've figured that. I see by my reverse that they were overstruck using Jeff's as planchets huh. Nice work
IMO, you guys are the best thing that was ever at the SS except for trips to the Denver Mint. The book sale is a close second!
