Well, like Spider, it appears I collect half-dollar coins too. I just didn't realize it until now. :D I got out my stash and reacquainted myself with the coins that I have. I have US and non-US coins - old and new. What I discovered though is that I have quite a number of half-dollar coins. I found that I have 7 1964, 1 1966, 2 1967, 1 1977, 1 1998 and 1 1999 Kennedies, 1 1960 Franklin, and 1 1943 and 1 1946 (suppsedly MS-62) Walking Liberty and 22 Bicentennial halves, at least one of which I would guess is BU (but probably AU to all of you. :)). The half dollars dominate my collection. I do have 10 Eisenhowers and some Bicenntennial quarters but the rest is pretty much a smattering of just about everything. I think my favorite coins are the Walking Liberty half-dollar and the Peace Dollar.

I have a digital camera but it is charging and is not a professional grade camera so any future pictures may not be so great. I guess I'll have to give it a try and see what we get. :)

Cool! Sounds like you have the beginnings of a couple different collections. The Walking Liberty halves are neat and can be expensive to collect, but a collection of Ike dollars and Kennedy halves can be compiled fairly easily and at a reasonable cost. Might want to think about a state quarter collection, too. Something that can be acquired from circulation, except for the proof pieces.

Trade in some of your Bicentennial halves and quarters for other dates. The Kennedy halves from 1965 - 1970 are 40% silver, after that they are all copper-nickel clad except for some silver proof pieces and special commemorative issues. The 1964 is 90% silver.

    Have fun!

Thanks. I wondered when the cutoff was on the 40% silver halves. I do also collect pennies and have been collecting the state quarters since they started - three of each state for each of my three children. I have not concerned myself with which mint they were from but I know the vast majority are from the Denver mint. I have just recently bought my first silver proof quarter set, the 2005. Now I need to work backwards to get the rest Gotta save some up money for the 1999 set. After reading some of the finds others have made from just buying half-dollar rolls from banks, I think I might look into that option myself.

I've been thinking about this. They all came out of circulation and most show signs of it. Some are still in nice condition but those are probably the keeps. So, what is the best way to trade them in? I guess at a coin shop? Are they going to be interested in circulated Bicentennial halves and Ikes?

    Thanks.

It certainly can't hurt to ask. You could also ask other collectors ;)

As I recall you have some yellowish kind of coins. Wanna trade some of them for some shiney, silvery kinds of coins? If they aren't shiney enough for you I could make them shinier. ;) :D

I'll have to swing by one of those shops you told me about and see what interest there may be. Then there is the show in June too.

    Thanks.

Trust me, you're not the first to try that plan ;)
