a friend of mine came across some rolls of 2009 Lincoln Cents. He listed them on Craigslist for $5 each. One buyer met him at a tollway rest area, picked out 3 rolls and paid cash for them. THEN..... the e-mails began. The buyer claims that none of the coins are uncirculated and that my friend picked them all out of circulation and rolled them. His initial evidence was that they weren't in the blue paper rolls you see on the mint's website. Apparently the guy just won't let up. Figured you guys would get a kick out of that story. PS. Any ideas on what to write back to get him to stop e-mailing about the coins?
Tell him he is an idiot.. Seriously, "because they are not in mint rolls" doesn't make them circulated!!! HE IS AN IDIOT! If they are bank wrapped rolls, and they are all 09 Log Cabins, they are all uncirculated, because, they had just been rolled up! I don't know what I would email this buyer...
I don't even know what you mean about the blue rolls. All of the rolls I have seen were in white and red paper rolls. And I am certain they are uncirculated.
Sure -- refer him to this picture, which shows uncirculated date-stamped rolls in the very same rolls that this guy probably has. _Maybe_ that will help.
He didn't just see them, he picked three out of a group of eight. Friend just forwarded an e-mail to me that he just received. The guy has apparently opened all three rolls and scanned some of them. He included the following comment "These look uncirculated to you?" The image was embedded in the e-mail so I had to copy/paste it out to save it. Don't know if the resolution was lost by the e-mail system, the act of copy/pasting it, or if the guy really just took a crappy scan of the coins. Either way, I could never write this stuff on my own. We've been sending stuff to my friend about safety on the internet and any articles we can find on Craigslist stalking. I don't think he finds it funny anymore.
Those look uncirculated to me! This guy is obviously a novice in the fields of collecting, or is an experienced con artist..
Can you imagine if this guy bought your coins on e-bay? Isn't it a pretty simple thing to file a dispute through e-bay/paypal to get a refund for "Coins not as advertised"?
block the block head. You'll never satisfy an idiot. Or: Tell him that if he doesn't leave you alone, you'll tell his Mommy on him! [Hint: Grow up!]
I've picked enough 2009-D from circulation for a couple of rolls, but it was easier to get them from the local bank. I have broken some new bank rolls ( about 10 of them) and some of the coins already have a toning to them, as well as water spots, scrapes ( maybe from a counting machine, etc. Honestly only about 1 in 3 were good enough to save. Also, just a comment, a fellow club member opened some bank rolls and found other cents inside the roll. I don't know how the Coin rolling facility does the rolling, but it appears they take no concern if the hopper is filled with only 2009 cents. At least the mint should be completely 100%. Jim
Yep, too many, I wish we could put an end to it, once and for all...But only in a perfect world, where St Gaudens are used as circulating coins, and the US mint ships items on time... IN A PERFECT WORLD
Tell him to go out back take 3 five dollar bills and set them on fire Tell him to go out back take 3 five dollar bills and set them on fire and see which deal lasted him the longest?
Yeah, I left a neutral feedback for a seller once, stating that the coins were fine and as described but took 2 weeks to receive them from literally 3 hrs away. And he charged $4 for shipping while actual was less than a buck. That guy would send harassing e-mails to me, out of the blue, two months after the sale! Criticizing me, name calling, and used just about every junior high style put down under the sun referring to me. I even tried to be nice with him at first. Eventually I realized I had to quit e-mailing him back because it never would have ended and I just had to send all of his abusive e-mails straight to ebay to report him. I was the second person to report his abuse. After forwarding all of his crap and writing several e-mails to ebay, basically screaming at them about this guy, they 'temporarily' suspended his account. (Wouldn't want to lose a buck of profit for the sake of normal people's sanity!!!) He finally left me alone, came back and then eventually was suspended over harrassing someone else for good. Some people have serious mental issues out there. The fact that the guy is investing this much time in arguing over $15 would be disturbing enough for me. Just feel sorry for the next guy that may have to do business with him over real money.
