Collectors like to have at least partial dates to identify them, however there are folks that horde them regardless of condition or date. I think the buffalo nickel might very well be the most horded coin. El Capitan also has a point. A lot of people buy dateless buffalo nickels for jewelry and clothing accents. Numismatically, they aren't worth a whole lot, but neat to have!
