An Error Coin You May Not Know Exists - Episode 23 In 1929, The German Weimar Republic issued a silver Five Reichmark coin measuring 37mm and containing 0.500 ounce Actual Silver Weight to commemorate the loss of 19 of its territories due to the Versailles Treaty. The loss is symbolized by the placement of an oak tree on the reverse. The lost territories are represented by 19 of the tree's branches which are barren (no leaves). The coin is supposed to be a perfect 37mm coin, but this partricular coin is slightly eliptical because it was struck off-center, as you can see (photo courtesy of Coin Archives): http://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotviewer.php?LotID=946970&AucID=702&Lot=470&Val=4df98d5d44bc6582ccd47d94ec052940 Hope you enjoyed learning about this error.
