    Hi all,

My name is Russ and my intrepid co-worker and all around good egg @mikenoodle convinced me to finally join the forum. Some of you may know me from other forums like PCGS and NGC, which I've been around on for nearly two decades in some form or another. I currently work for HJB Ltd. in Chicago and before that I had a brief stint at Heritage in Dallas.

I specialize in 19th century US numismatics and I personally collect Liberty Seated coinage. However, one of the great things about working in one of the oldest and busiest shops in the country is getting to play with a little bit of everything.

While going through roll after roll of mint sealed ASEs we purchased in a large deal I stumbled across this coin. While strike throughs aren't exactly the rarest of errors its pretty neat to be able to be the first one to discover the coin and to know exactly what it was struck through!

    Cheers! ASE Strike Through.jpg

Currently ebay has 13 ase's listed as strike throughs. I don't collect and didn't know they existed since they, I thought, were inspected before release.

    Hi and welcome to CT
The edges of the object appear fibrous, such as a piece of die polishing cloth or similar. The shape and depth of the strike through resemble one I have on a 1989 P Mint Set Kennedy half, I have no idea what caused mine.

Glad you could join us. Hope we can make it worth your while.

The substance appears to be paper or cardboard fiber, is that your take?

It is a very thin piece of cardboard or some other such packing material. The picture on the left is exactly as I found the coin when I popped the tube open.

It is nice to have both coins. Bet someone will pay nicely for both. Wonder if a TPG would slab them together ( I know, for a PRICE$$).

It appears to be the same coin before and after the substance was removed, judging by the same blemish near the I.

I have a retained struck-through on a Canadian half dollar (wire brush fragment) which I think is cool but probably detracts from the value.

I remember walking past your store a few years ago. Too early in the morning for you to be open unfortunately. I posted about it here...
