An added mint mark?

Hello, so this past weekend I purchased a 1904 - S $5 gold piece! Amazingly the dealer had a few that he was selling for spot + 5%, and with my Redbook on hand, I learned that the 1904 s had just 97,000 pieces minted! After looking at the coin and it more, I am wondering if the s mint mark may have been added on? The weight checks out, there is no evidence of casting on the rim, but do you think that the s was added on?

What makes you think it was added on? Looks fine to me.

Thank you all for your responses, I just thought it was kind of weird that a coin with such a low mintage was being sold based on its bullion value. I sure am happy with the piece though!

I'm no expert on gold pieces, but I'd assume since the intrinsic value is so high the numismatic value would rarely eclipse it, save for extremely low mintages
