Howdy, As mentioned, it's an urban legend for most but the same people who believe in the New World Order and black helicopters believe that it's true. I wouldn't send in your order yet. rono
Agreed, just an urban myth. Coin World spoke with the creator of the Amero pieces a few issues back, and even he admits that they're just fantasy pieces, nothing more.
Coins are already being minted Check out this link of talk show host Hal Turner who has received an AMERO coin by someone in the US Treasury. He posted pictures and video to show that it's real. http://www.halturnershow.com/AmeroCoinArrives.html Search google "amero" and you will find all kinds of info.
To be blunt, Hal Turner is a fool for buying into this cheesy conspiracy theory. They're fantasy pieces, nothing more. A North American Union? Yeah, right. The CNBC videos don't confirm anything. It's all false speculation. BTW, I live just BLOCKS away from the Denver Mint. There has been a ton of construction on 13th St. and the other cross streets next to the mint. The construction is to improve the streets there (which are rather crummy) - NOT construction on the Mint. In fact, my friend is VISITING the Mint today, and I myself visited it a few months ago. From Hal himself: "I stand vindicated. All those who claimed I fabricated the images now owe me an apology. All those who claimed these were "fantasy" coins can now explain why anyone in their right mind would spend Millions [sic] of dollars to create the rare and expensive professional dies and plates necessary for minting coins that will not be issued?" Well, perhaps he could ask Daniel Carr who designed the Amero "coins," as he's a semi-regular poster here on Coin Talk! BTW, I didn't know Mr. Carr was a millionaire! :mouth: Check out his site here: http://www.designscomputed.com/coins/
AHAH. These were created by a forum member who posts here semi-regularly. He is Daniel Carr (who also designed the New York and Rhode Island quarters) and these are just fantasy pieces. Have you checked out his parody state quarters and his two dollar coins?
Millions of dollars? Someone needs to explain to Mr Turner that there are a great many private mints here in the US that will gladly create "Professional dies" for them with what ever design you want on them for a few hundred dollars per die. I have one right here in town where I live and another just 18 miles down the road. And I know of others on further down the road in Cincinnati. Having a private "coin" token or medal made is not that expensive. Two of my local coin clubs had it done last year and the cost of the finished medals to the club members was $5 apiece and we didn't lose money on the deal.
