Hello, i'm new to this forum and i'm starting to get in to collecting. My grandmother just gave me a large replica collection of two ounce silver coins. There is probably about 16 of them. They have certificates of authenticity and plastic cases. I have attached some photos (two pics of coin and two of certificate) and was wondering if anyone out there could help me with placing a value on them. Thanks alot and i'm looking forward to being part of your community.
Howdy burtonridr - Welcome to the Forum !! Replica coins such as those you posted are worth their metal content only. So if the coin has 2 oz of silver, it's worth about $26.00 right now. If the price of silver drops - so does the value.
I've always found it ironic that replicas come with a certificate of authenticity. So basically it has a paper that says it's a genuine fake, lol... why do they bother putting them in? Still, it is worth what the silver inside it is worth, and nice to look at if you can't afford the real thing yet.
Are these the kind of things you might buy on lets say the home shopping network? I knew many elderly people that bought expensive rings, coins and other items that were sold as "just about to increase in value" by the network shopping channels. It seems like a way to fleece the elderly without having to actually go to their doors.
My great grandmother bought a bunch of these. I had the same question. Thanks for posting. Should be worth a little over $30 today.
