I picked up a 1987 American Silver Eagle today and have found an interesting discrepancy. I cant call it an error yet. The field for the stars on the obverse has no weave pattern. The hat has an appearance of a light strike as it has few distinguishing features. Has anyone seen this before. I will try to post a photo.

    Thanks

sounds interesting, but like you said - i doubt its an error, and it might be wear, or a weak strike like you mentioned ...
