Looking at the possibility of buying the first set of the ATB 5 oz coins for 1995.00. The question is, is this a good deal and /or would it be worth the investment?
unless they are high grades that is no way worth $1995. raw sets are going for $1300-1450 and now that silver has dropped a little that might even be less
Can't predict the future, it's hard to say if that set will hold such a high premium. You're buying 25 oz. of silver, that's about $975 in melt value right there. Do I personally think a $1000 premium is appropriate on this set? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Others may disagree, but I look at them as chunks of 5 oz of silver a piece, and I would not pay more than $200 a piece on each right now, I don't care if they have springs on them, or Gettysburg, or if the Pope himself kissed each one. Silver is silver. Instead of buying 25 oz of silver for $1995, you could buy just a little over 51 oz of regular silver bars for that money.
Ya got that right! Personally I'd rather have ASE's b/c it seems to me that you could get alot more money selling single ounces of silver than messing around with them 5 ouncers. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful pieces of art and I'd love to have one but that said, I can do alot better with American Silver Eagles as far as making money goes.
$1995 is way way too much, unless they are graded 69DMPL Other than that, they are all pretty much limited edition bullion. I have a few extra raw sets of the 2010 bullion and I'd love to get that price for them!!!! But I'm thinking they're worth around $1350/set today.
I would only buy these at close to spot silver which is what they are likely going to trade for eventually. There may be some small premium for the first year lower mintage issues, but I would not take the risk and sink a lot of money into them. Although I have seen a few of the MS69 DMPL coins and they look really nice, they are really just graded bullion. IMO, if you got one or more MS69 DMPL for close to spot then great, but I would not pay the high premiums for them. TC
Silver has dropped considerably just in the past few weeks, as much as $15 an ounce. No telling where it will go this week, or in the future.
