My grandma returned from Mexico and brought over her new pesos and the old ones from previous trips. In there was a 1923 s quarter. The strike is great but it is extremely dark on the obverse and the reverse is spotted. I will have to post some picutes soon because i have never graded standing liberty nor have any of these quarters. Just thought I would share this since i havent posted in awhile
Any help on grading would be awesome or even authenticity. Ill try to set up nice light tomorrow and a tripod
im not an expert on standing liberty's but without seeing it in hand and having a feel for the luster id say its a AU coin all the way………i am just going off from the knee which i believe shows the first signs of wear,,,,,,,,,,i am sure a slq expert will ring in
I doubt it would look "right" while looking thru one of those glass lens like that. Wait til there's some real pictures and we'll see then IMO.
There really is no luster on the obverse, as it is really dark. The reverse has no cartwheel but is fairly shiny. I'll try to get some reall pics tomarrow and maybe take it to the smaller dealer tomarrow if he's there and the larger one Tuesday. As one is In walking distance from my school and the other is a 30 minute drive on a really good day
I dont think it is real.the images you posted are very large, you can enlarge them by clicking on them, and clicking again.you can see on the obverse & reverse alot of what looks like pitting, and I owned a bogie SLQ that looked just like that.its the color and the way the color lays on the coin.I believe it is a cast fake. It just doesnt sit right with me.I personally wouldnt buy it Oh and I believe it was "aged"
That's fine if that's how you feel... but why don't you tell the OP/us WHY you think so? :computer: No point posting that if you can't explain what tips you off.
I did.there are holes in the reverse & some in the obverse.casting type holes, they are also on the rim's. the toning does not look right.the color is off. Like I said I owned a fake SLQ,its presence is identical to the one in the photo.also the date looks off.also the holes are from the type of silver used, its not solid silver, they filled it in with tin,and the tin did not stay put.
Yeah, I know you did... but MBT didn't, which is who I was replying to, not you, so I don't know why you felt the need to post your thoughts again.
