Am I seeing double? On this 1939 Jefferson nickel?

    MD I believe. From what I can see the serifs are not split.

    When you see "doubling" on both sides of devices, it is a classic sign of die deterioration. When a die is being hubbed and there is slight movement between strikes you see a doubled die created. But the movement is only one direction, not two opposing directions simultaneously.

    Definitely Die Deterioration, and maybe a touch of MD for good measure. Remember when you post coins that posting a full Obverse and Reverse, cropped to remove the background clutter, helps members here with answering questions. Probably not essential in this case, but helpful.

    Yes it doubled but it’s from a worn die so only worth face value.
