This was reported on eBay Code of Conduct. I wonder if they report this kind of activity to law enforcement? What do you think? On eBay, take a look at the pictures in these two listings in separate browser tabs: 280331149022 and 260379427649. Go from tab to tab and compare the pictures. Does this look like the same coin? It was bought for $23 as an 1894-O and sold as an 1894 KEY DATE for $520.
I agree they are the same coin but the buyer needs to be the one notified, since they left positive feedback and aren't aware of the removed mint mark. I went ahead and notified the buyer so let's hope they don't think I'm a crackpot, like one buyer said to me recently, but once he realized I wasn't, he got busy doing what he needed to do to get a refund. i don't know if they report it, but someone could, thats for sure. This guy is obviously engaging in fraud and it is going to end up biting him in the butt sooner or later
The problem is, the only person with proof of the fraud is the buyer, so the buyer is still the one to contact. We cannot prove it with the crappy pics provided by the seller, which is just another situation where a coin should not have sold, due to poor pics, but the majority of buyers on Ebay are too trusting. :goofer: Ribbit
perfecting his craft perhaps? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280337813179 guy sure has a thing for buying common date mintmarked coins and only selling lower mintage ones of the same year, minus of course the MM's. Read his feedback and look at his purchases and sales. Alot of happy customers. wait til they try to sell.
Great! I hope he doesn't havbe to jump through hoops to get his money back. Whoever did this needs to be reported to the authorties! This is the kind of thing that hurts coin collecting. Lucky for him there are people like you to help him get his money back!
But it always takes someone finding the fraud before anything can be done about it. As to Ebay doing anything about it, don't hold your breath. They make so much money off the fraud, to take it away from them will put a serious bite into their earnings. The fox is truly watching the hen house! :goof: Ribbit
It makes me wonder how many S's have been ground off 1928 Peace Dollars too. You are so very right about eBay not doing anything about it. I have written 2 letters to the CEO and nothing was done. I never even heard back from him. If the collectors don't help police the problem then nobody will. As a matter of fact a long time ago when you could see who was bidding, one bidder warned another bidder about this same thing happening during aa auction, and the guy that warned the other one is the one that got in trouble. I wonder about this world sometimes.
Some of his past purchases besides coins. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110369855057 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110370521618 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110369625579 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220379328598
Not for sure. Maybe if I read these books he bought. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260387063813 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220370623817
Unbelievable! I didn't think to look back at his other purchases. You would make a good PI. He would look good behind bars! Perhaps that's where he is headed.
Wow, his past purchases are simply mind blowing. The only purchase missing is a sign that reads "I AM CHEAT" Simply amazing...
Wow, yeah. I was looking at his purchases and feedback, and I just have to say this is really really sad. This guy SERIOUSLY needs to get booted off of ebay!! Not only has he robbed countless people, but he is the type that gives the ebay the bad stereotype....:headbang::headbang:

Great PI work! I didn't know it was to that extent. He has found a goldmine. It looks very clear that he is on a roll and will definately keep doing this . . making money hand over fist by cutting off mintmarks, or at least until the FBI goes and gets this guy. He seriously needs to be behind bars! I've been collecting for over 30 years and have never seen anything like this. I knew it was probably going on, and I've seen coins that I questioned, but I've never seen a "Smoking gun" like this. It makes me sick! I wonder if we will ever find out what happens to him?
