Recently a lot of 160 Roman coins purchased at an online auction (Heidelberger Münzhandlung) of these coins I have determined to date, 137. A few thank you said. There are a lot or five that probably still can be determined. Remains a piece or 20 coins that are worn out and I'm going to sell. Still have them once properly checked and then caught my eye on this beautiful green. Currency is 30 mm in size, on either side a head and behind one of the heads you can just barely read the letters DIV! Try to identify where I come across it on a coin of Augustus. However, the heads (RPC 620) are not exactly the same. Where I very doubt whether I on track it! Help wanted?
It's different, but maybe similar to this coin AUGUSTUS (OCTAVIAN) AE Dupondius OBVERSE: CAESAR DIVI F, bare head of Octavian right REVERSE: DIVOS IVLIVS, wreathed head of Julius Caesar right Gallic or Italian mint 38 BC 30mm; 17.90 g CR535/v1, RPC620v
You are on the right track Sadly I don't have the dual portrait as @Bing's and yours, but the sister coin only bearing Octavian's portrait : Octavian, Dupondius Minted in Italy 38 BC DIVI F, bare head of Octavian right DIVOS IVLIVS, in a laurel wreath 27.07 gr Ref : HCRI # 309, RCV # 1570, RPC #621 Yours is RCV # 1569 and HCRI # 308 and might be from a branch mint or an unofficial one though from the style of the portraits Nice find Q
You don't need help as much as you need to have faith in your abilities. These come in quite a few 'styles' including some a bit barbarous.
Thanks for your comments, all clear now. Great to hear that I do not they are bad. This coin is from now on a keeper, so a nice find. In a beautiful lot of 160 coins. Always a gamble to bid on a mixed lot of this quality! But this is really beautiful. With many good and/or separate coins.
