Alleged Walnut Creek (Calif.) Rare Coin Thief Arrested At Casino

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.

A man wanted for the theft half a million dollars in rare coins has been arrested while gambling at Cache Creek casino, authorities announced Thursday.

Authorities said they have taken Billy Vassiliou -- who was wanted in connection with the theft of rare gold coins stolen from a Walnut Creek dealer back in February -- into custody without incident.

Police said that Vassilou was possibly looking to cash in on the soaring price of gold, now above $1,600 an ounce.
