I posted in CU but it was not well received... Not sure who can do anything about this but seems like a threat! Holders are getting better and better and bar/ QR codes scan correctly. They still pick on open certs without on-line images. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100...sceneId":"3339","sku_id":"12000026476623519"}
Like they're going to do anything about it, and since when does the PRC* and its various organs do anything constructive for the rest of the world and the numismatic community by extension? CCP delenda est
Seems to me it's just like anything else. No matter what the good guys do, the bad guys will always figure out a way to counter it. Pretty much been that way since the dawn of time. Now I'm not saying that means the good guys give up or quit trying to counter bad guys. I'm merely saying it's a ongoing battle that will never stop. And the best any of us can ever do is to try and make others aware once we become aware.
I need to shower off after going there. Most of the stuff I clicked on the barcodes and/or cert #s don't match what's on the label so that's still our first line of defense.
There's a pretty good chance what you'd get would be a lot lower quality than the picture. That said just means they'll be changing it again, there's a reason why theres been so many different slabs and holograms over the years.
This one is pretty good, from the same site; sure you can tell which is good. To @GoldFinger1969 's comment they picked one that had images available: The obverse barcode looks off but edited to "does NOT" read the correct cert # (@KBBPLL is correct); the reverse QR code takes you to the correct PCGS cert.
The one on the left in your post is the same one I landed on. My scan of the barcode says it only has 83340199 in it, with no coin # or grade embedded. Maybe my reader is faulty? 83340199 is a PCGS-graded Chinese coin. The QR code is trying to take me to pcgs.com.cn, which is the Chinese PCGS site. To go any further it wants me to install an app, which I'm not willing to do. But why would the QR on a Mexican coin be taking me to the Chinese PCGS? The QR on the right takes me straight to the correct coin on US PCGS. Visually you can tell that the two QRs are not the same.
If you have a certification number....plus pics taken by the TPG.....and maybe that color-shifting hologram I saw on the PCGS Hall Of Slabs....wouldn't that be pretty hard to countefeit ?
To get everything right yea. They will make changes again at some point. Fake slabs are like bullet proof armor and guns. You make the armor then the gun gets designed to beat it so you change the armor. Same with slabs, you make the slab they get close enough so you make a change to the slab rinse and repeat The chips now will help a lot too
Don't we have them already ? What specifically about the (new) chips helps ? And aren't pics the best ? Although I realize PCGS and NGC can't get pics for long-lost graded coins that aren't re-submitted.
Yes the chips are on all new slabs for PCGS Yes and the PCGS ones are the highest quality. Everything gets pictured now besides moderns and US economy
