Picked this one up for a mere 10 Euros. The reverse reminds me of the battle scene in this movie: Please show your coins of the Koinon of Macedonia
Great capture @Andres2 ! I have none from the Imperial period, however I have a few from the Republic's Empire. I showed these before, but I really enjoy their history... Ha, I have a similar one of similar preservation and cost! I also have another Koinon/Bucephalus coin that I've shared a few times here before.
That's a heck of a deal, @Andres! @Orange Julius, what a fantastic "Alexander taming Bucephalus"! I have one from one of my first large lot purchases. The condition is unfortunate but it is still a keeper. I'd love to get one as nice as yours. These seem hard to find in mid and higher grades. Macedon Koinon 3rd century AD (in the time of Severus Alexander? Gordian III? Caracalla? This type was minted during several reigns) AE27, 13.5 gm Obv: (in theory...) Nice catch @Andres2. Mine like @TIF's came in a bulk purchase of Provincials many moons ago. On the Obverse he wears a helmet that he found in the ATTIC Alexander with RH raised atop Bucephalus leaping, Star below on Reverse
