Hello! I finally got my Photo Copy Stand, and my wife helped me set up my Nikon D40... (she won't even let me NEAR her Nikon D200 with a super-duper Macro Lens that was the cost of our house...) However, here are my very first attempts at showing a couple of Roman denarii I purchased a couple months ago... Yup, I know I have some improvements in photography, but I banged these out pretty quickly... I ned to study Doug's site on coin photography... :)

The file came out huge, so I only used the thumbnail file loading. If you click it, the denarius FILLS your screen. I will down load your suggested tool and play around with it! THANK YOU!

  8. Remove background for better contrast/pop.

How do I remove the background? I DO like that black contrast...really shows off the silver and facie

  14. I use Photoshop because it's free at work. There is another online editor that forum members use, but i can't recall the name. While I was at it; thought I'd add the latter.

Are you sure there is no encouragement or blackmail you can use to get your wife more involved, at least as a temporary measure?

    TIF Always learning.

    Free online photo editor: http://pixlr.com/editor/

Pixlr's interface is very similar to Photoshop Elements (the pared-down version of Photoshop)

I've heard others mention another free editor, Gimp, but I don't know anything about it.

As for step-by-step instructions, I may have typed how I do it somewhere on CoinTalk. Others have too. There is more than one way to do it. First you'll need become familiar with the basics of using one of these editors. There are probably numerous background removal tutorials on the internet.

Alegandron your photography skills have improved dramatically, the copy stand was the best thing I ever bought. Your wife might be able to give you some advice on lighting etc. Then you get her very, very drunk and put her to bed. Then you "borrow" her super duper macro lens :D

LOL, neither of us drink anymore! She actually left a portable lighting box in my office for me to try, and she has some lens ring lighting and dual flash lights that coordinate with the camera flash. With camera mounted, and the boom extended, her Macro lens would extend down to the stand base, so...that won't work... She did a lot of eclectic macro pics / subjects, and did macros on flowers. I have ABSOLUTELY no patience to do that!!! Virtually HOURS of looking at nuances... she sees things that I would NEVER notice! Love the Avatar coin you have...impressive strike!
