Here is a pretty neat find I made on Ebay some time ago. It was mis-listed as Al Overton's 3rd edition and had a BIN on it of $20.00. I snatched it up and even put it on plastic which is RARE for me, LOL.

It is actually his 1st edition :)

Hey, that's pretty cool Bone. Does it have photographs, drawings, or just text in it? What year was it published?

It's got drawings for each type of half dollar variety, but they aren't in the standard O-111, O-114, etc. They are listed like this (S1LEm S7UE-UHC, S8LH, S13 SC.PT.C) really!!!

It was published in 1964, Hardbound 349 pages. Here's a picture and it'll also offer evidence to explain my penchant for mis-spelling words, LOL ;). I told OldDan once I only had nine fintgers left so now I offer the evidence.

I have the Revised Edition. Printed in 1970. The Paper Cover is long gone, but it was a light yellow, if I remember correctly. The Hardcover part is an ugly green. You found a GOOD ONE!!!

My Revised (1970) only has 274 pages, with a 4 page Transition table for the revised edition.

    Hmmmmm.........
    My 4 Page Transition Table has some handwritten Revisions for 1807 O103, 1808 O102a, and 1810 O105.

I'm waiting for the 4th printing to come off the press's so I can get up-to-par on all of my "Overtons" :D

funny... isn't that the seller's name you purchased this edition from?

I saw it for sale earlier, but I was looking for a 3rd edition.

Play on words, play on words my fine fellow :) I purchased this a year or two ago and I think Mr. Al C. Overton sadly had passed on, even by then :( The 3rd edition is the standard now, but rumor has it there is a 4th at the press.

I had heard the same thing, but I spoke with a book dealer who said it wasn't going to be a 2006 release. I don't know how much of that was 'in the know' and how much of that was just a guess.

Well, drats, and here I am with a bunch of unattributed "Bust Halves" I hate to bother folks always asking "What Overton Variety" they are. I may hit a few book search engins then and try for a 3rd ed.
