Forget about cost, forget about storage space, and slabs are not an option. if you could store your entire collection in airtites and airtite folders, would you do it? besides slabs, do you feel airtites are the next best option for protecting your collection??? I currently use dansco albums, but i have read to many things where people complained of toning in their dansco's. i realize that proper storage involves right temperature, humidity, light and such, but assuming all of those conditions are followed properly, what do you store your coins in???
You can't beat airtites. Best protection next to a sonic sealed slab. I keep my personal collection of gemmy reds in them, then into a crown size ( 2 1/2" square ) safety flip. I buy the red boxes that hold about 25 coins, and store them that way.
Dansco albums are great, for circulated coins that you aren't going to screw up by putting them in there. I personally like them, maybe it's because I used them as a kid, but they are decent albums (Truth be told I think the Littleton ones are nicer). However, as others have said on here (Doug was mentioning it recently) I would not put uncirculated coins in albums, it's a great way to turn them into AU coins. Here's how I store my collection: Anything Raw that's uncirc of higher value goes in an intercept shield holder. Anything else, I use some Whitman holders, flips, etc. Those go in intercept shield boxes. I have a bunch of raw stuff that I can't do much to help, (I'm the custodian of a family hoard of pre Korean War era Bank Wrapped rolls and I have a number of GSA dollars) so those also go in intercept sheild boxes. I also throw some silica gel in the safe just for good measure.
