I am curious if anyone out there uses the Airtite direct fit, or similar circular containers, and has found a good way of storing, but also displaying them. I am purchasing alot of the quarter rolls and proof sets and other coins and i am planning to break them up and keep them in the airtites, but i would like to be able to have them accessible to look at and share. I would love to be able to have a closet like shelving unit, thin but deep, with suede or velvet lining, that had horizontal rows cutout, with small dividers... has anyone seen anything like that... at our new place i am going to have a safe/vault room for the valuables, not bigger than a closet, but i would love to find this before we moved...appreciated!
Ive never had the need for such items to look for them, but i might suggest a jewely supply barn or something similar. Good luck.
Thanks, I have seen some nice wooden cases, but with the volume that ill be storing, that is just not adequate. I guess i can try and find someone to do a custom job, but im kinda surprised there is nothing out there for the collector that is anal about organization and still having them look nice...
Its a good goal you have I am more concerned with preservation then presentation Would it be possible to take the wooden units you have seen, and covering them with the velvet you desire?
You can search on this forum - someone posted something like thishttp://www.littletoncoin.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product5%7C10001%7C10001%7C-1%7C59042%7C17206. I just can not remember where it was at. I do not use these - and it seemed to me on one of them you could order different tray sizes.
well this would be in a humidor type containment...either the room could be "clean" or the drawers would be air tight and sucked out...yes it is a goal for sure... preservation is key, and its not sooo much about showing off each coin, more to have easy access, show volume, and there will be some display cases to show off individual coin's/sets... i just picked up 10 sets of the gold/colored quarters, mainly because i like they way they look, and they werent too expensive at all... great way to get kids into learning about the states with those colored quarters...and they are in airtites!!!
The best and most pleasing to the eye that I have ever run across are the tray and box systems offer by Lighthouse like this - This tray system comes in several different configurations for round holders like Air-Tites, square holders like the hard plastic 2x2, and even slabs. Then this tray system fits inside a custom aluminum or leather case like this - There are literally endless ways of custom configuration to suit every taste. You can find their web site here - Lighthouse
This is what i was thinking about for the higher volume coins in airtites, kinda viewing from the top, seeing the tops/edges of the coins. Having the square areas like those lighthouse in the front of the drawers for Identification of what is in the drawer is a fantastic idea.
