My GAE's are just in a roll, would it be a good idea to put them in the AitTite capsules? Would it affect the value any? Thanks!
It wouldn't affect the value unless they were damaged while putting them in the airtites. I would probably get some Intercept Shield holders if I was going to put them in holders. They are more expensive than airtites, but IMHO are the best available.
If they can lie on the bottom of the ocean then If gold can lie on the bottom of the ocean for 150 years and not be damaged then being in rolls sure ain't gonna hurt them. But on the other hand, if you can afford rolls of gold then a few nice holders ain't going to break you up - totally up to you but most folks just leave them in rolls if it's purely a bullion storage endeavor.
I think this is an excellent point. Why do you have the gold...is it an investment or for the joy of collecting (or both)? If it's just for the joy of investment I'd probably just leave them in the roll. If you have some collecting interest than I would definately put them in a holder so you can see them.
Thanks for the great answers. They're in rolls, (actually I made paper rolls out of a grocery bag so there won't be plastic on the coins in case of fire). I don't really plan on selling them, but that's what they're for, to look at and re-sell. And, I'll be leaving them to people, so it would be nice for them to be albe to look at them. So, AirTite, Intercept Shield, something else?
I think you will hear from various people on the board, when it comes to preservation...Intercept Shield is the best there is. They are a little more expensive than the others, but they are the best.
I have my modern 1 oz gold eagles in a Dansco album. You can order custom pages with the diameter of your coins (38mm) and get a plain cover and make your own album. It looks great and is nice and thin ..each page holds 9 per page so at $9,000 a page ..you don't need many unless you are a very wealthy man.
