I am about to buy some Airtite plastic coin holders that come with black foam inserts. Has anyone had a bad experience with the black foam ? Is it enviromentally safe to the coin ?

Air-Tite says they're inert. That's what I buy and use but all my coins that have been stored for a while in them are far from me and I haven't seen them in 7 months...guess that's not much help.

I do love the way they look and just ordered a bunch for my growing collection here.

The black inserts are just fine and completely harmless. They are 100% inert material. And yes I used them myself for many, many years.

With the thousands (100,000?) or so in use, you would have heard the screaming by now, if they were causing problems.

I've used them for years, they are GREAT. I don't like the "direct fits", they are sometimes too tight on the coin and as everything expands and contracts with temperature over time they can crack.

I have seen some clouding on some of my silver proof coins. no problem for gold or copper nickel coins.
