I flew out for my interview yesterday, and was hired for the apprentice grading position. I'll be moving to California and starting work in June!
Congrats Zane !! :thumb: Sure hope you're ready for this, you'll be movin into a different world pal.
Congratulations! Double congratulations, and to paradise. You'll be working less than 10 miles from my home, so look me up when you get here.
Thanks! I am ready for it. California is definitely a different social climate, and the weather is different, and it is far more expensive, but I'm prepared. I have my fiance coming with me, so that should make it a much easier transition. I'm really excited, as I am about to learn a whole lot in a short period of time!
WAY TO GO ZANE!!!!! Hope you can help PCGS get better with grading Franklin Halves FBL's I guess I'll have to watch what I say about PCGS from now on...... Speedy
I'll definitely look you up! I can't wait to start. They were kind enough to let me finish up school, and they gave me a fair amount of time to locate housing. Small houses in Irvine and the surrounding areas cost about 400-500k, but I have a generous down payment thanks to the folks, and a 30 year mortgage seems like what I will do (of course paying more into the house when I get promoted, assuming I do, or when my fiance gets promoted).
I couldn't believe it when I was hired. I even asked to make sure I had gotten the job. It was without question, one of the happiest moments of my life. :kewl:
I've done lots of research. Figured how much my fiance and I will have to pay for car insurance, mortgage or rent payments, state income tax, federal income tax, cost of electricity, gas, food etc, and it looks like we will be okay. I'll be getting to look at coins for hours a day!
Ah, I see. I think I'll be able to hold my own, plus I won't be working in the actual grading room for a while! But I'm hoping I will sooner than later.
Well, I won't be doing the actual grading yet, and it's a possibility I never will (But I doubt that, as I'm fully committed to learning everything I need to know to grade at the professional level, and I think I've learned a lot since I became interested in coins, which has been just under a year now). I also think I'd lose my job if I did that (I know you weren't serious about the question btw )
Congrats on the new Job... Sound like it could be awsome... If you won't be grading, wht will you be doing???
I'll be learning how to grade, and getting paid for it :kewl: I'll also being doing some other things like verify the labels on the coins that go out (checking dates and mintmarks). I'm looking forward to it.
