Sometimes I laugh, sometimes i want to cry. Luckily, i didn't waste too much money. If i remember correctly, these were part of a lot advertised as containing $10,000 worth of coins. I paid ~$80.00 for 5 coins or so. 1 PCGS and the rest ANI.

Zoom in on Kennedy's hair. I'm pretty sure someone put a cigar out on his head.

Go ahead, Laugh. And then post your embarrassing off-brand TPG purchases.

I must say we have all gotten screwed on a coin before, as Rusty "Rzage" once told me, you'd be lying if you didn't. It looks like a good learning experience. :)
I got ripped on a MS Mercury Dime once, I waaay overpaid, but never did it again.

I can't post them as they were all sold, but I had a bunch of Morgans in Accugrade holders that weren't worth the printing on the label. Anything slabbed by Crapugrade was a joke.

We all did. I would agree with Rusty in that anyone who is a collector who says they have never been ripped off either are a liar or are not wise enough yet to know how they were ripped off.

We all take our lumps. I believe this is part of the reason some of us older collectors come to CT, to try to minimize those losses for some beginners.

We all have to learn somehow. Just be thankful your education was only $80. :)

I can honestly say I have never been ripped off from buying a slab. Since I have only bought a dozen, from NGC and PCGS.
I chose to get ripped off by making terrible, impulse buys on raw coins when I first started collecting. I learned my lesson VERY quickly thankfully.

Here was one of those ripoffs, ugh:

Yep - can't post them as mentioned. I cleaned out my collection. And $80 is a cheap lesson - wait till you get a $500 lesson. I see lots of things I want to buy, but now I can resist the urge. And in some cases I at least now understand what I am getting into in some cases. I know I still run the risk in some cases and will probably still make some mistakes - but fewer and cheaper I hope.

Its happened to all of us. That is the way you learn. Hopefully the tuition is not too expensive.

I have to honestly say I have not got ripped off yet. But part of that reason was because I was googling and lurking here before I made any purchase. There are no basement TPGs in my collection and thankfully the dealer I buy from is a honest guy.

Well I just found that receipt for the original auction. I can't believe I was so dumb as recently as 2006! I was SHOCKED when I saw I actually wasted $180! I got probably $30 worth of coins and NONE of them I wanted. Dumb, dumb, dumb. So my education cost me an extra $100, but I still learned it well.

I dont know anything about that series, but that coin is just not pretty. Color is very strange, not Chocolate like I imagine it should be.

    Thanks for sharing the pain!
