Is anyone out there looking for an affordable certified Peace Dollar? OK so my real question is why would someone waste money on grading this coin? The grading fee cost more than the coin. The only purpose this serves is to satisfy the collectors who attempt to assemble type sets with the lowest grades possible. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=68094&Lot_No=64674
But, the total population for PCGS and NGC is a total of 2 !!!!!!! Rare in this grade, well worth a hefty bid, yada, yada, ebayspeak. Jim
Seriously, do you think they might have thought they had a whisker cheek? VAM 1D with a rarity of R-6? ...and didn't? I can see some type of disturbance in that area. Jim
well i dont know about peace but morgans with a grade of 1 can comamnd a lot of money more than even a 63 or 64 if they fit into the lowball set. i think someone was trying for 1 and took a hit its like a trying to aim for a 70 and getting a 69 only the other way round
This is the last circulated whisker cheek that I could find in Heritage's archives and it only sold for $65, so I don't think that was the reason. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=24061&Lot_No=13690#photo
worst type set ever It probably was from someone attempting to put together the-type-set-from-hell. Another thought I had was that it could have been someone with bad eyesight hoping it was a 1928.
That has to be it. The 1928 is actually worth slabbing in any grade. However, I just found this F2 IGC 1928 and it looks much better than the 1923 in the OP. I think NGC overgraded the coin and should be P1. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1116&Lot_No=9621
They should resubmit the darn thing over and over until they get justice ! Of course, they'll have to crack it out. When regrading in-slab, they won't lower the grade. Or bounce from TPG to TPG as a crossover minimum acceptable grade PO-1 :rolling:.
Probably wouldn't have to worry about anyone stealing it! Also would probably not hear someone say, I wish I could afford that coin.
