I’m looking for advice on where the best place is to sell ancient coins online. Essentially, I’ve overstretched myself a little bit at a recent auction and need to downsize my collection (actually, just a single elephant Caesar 49-48BC at the moment), but I’m not too sure on the best places to sell online. I’m aware that eBay has a terrible reputation for selling fakes, so I don’t expect too much luck there. Any ideas? Thanks

I suggest CNG you might end up best deal there but I have tried CNG route in past and sometimes they reject and say you need to submit lots that their total worth is at least 2000 USD. But still try it they might accept yours. I would also suggest try VCoins auctions
For a single coin, selling it direct to a collector or outright to a dealer would be the only routes to go. The overhead of handling a consignment for an auction house is too significant for a single coin.
I Agree but I suggest sell to a collector rather than a dealer . Dealers tend to pay way less for a coin than a collector . Is there any place where someone can sell directly to collectors? Is there such site similar to VCoins but for collector to collector sale?
The unfortunate fact is that you will not get, today, what you paid for a coin at 'recent auction'. Many collectors/dealers are looking for that coin and would have bid higher than you did if they did not think you were paying more than they would. People may pay Roma £500 GBP but not to you or me. In a few years, you may sell it for what you paid but most of us would just as well buy another in the next sale from a seller we know than this one from someone we do not know. This is exactly what eBay was set up to be 20 years ago when I joined. Unfortunately they chose to go the way of supporting 'pretend' dealers and set up a fee schedule that favors listing coins rather than selling them. If you sell on eBay, you will get less for the coin than if you sell to a collector who knows and trusts you but the fact remains that the options involving strangers all share a substantial loss leaving the question whether you really want to sell now or if you really have to have the money, however much less it is. I would suggest saving money on all frivolities for a year and keeping the coin.
@dougsmit I mean to say that I spent a bit too much on some other coins recently at an auction. I’ve had this Caesar denarius a little while now. I’m happy with this coin on the whole, I just have two of the type and feel I might as well sell one to fund my other purchases.
@willkerrs don't worry you know how much I spent in last 1 year in auction?? 40K I bet you didn't spent as much so I should be the one who sells the coins
