What's the best way to approach building a Buffalo grading set?

I know the quality of the strike varies greatly throughout the series.

Would it be better to stick to a single year with affordable and consistent quality coins?

Does NGC and PCGS grade comparably?

Also, I was considering picking up a few coins that were BB'd. NGC seems to label the reason for the BB. Would this be a useful tool when looking for RAW coins?

What are some years I should consider?

    Thanks in advance...

I generally stay away from problem coins, they don't hold value very well and who wants an abused or improperly stored coin?

Also it's wise to go with key dates first, buy them certified, you can most likely assemble all the 30's from circulation.

    First see Dougs answer.

Second - if doing a grading set then yes stick to a single year. As for which year - I am not sure, probably a semi-key date where you could find tpg graded coins in the lower grades. Some of the 30's you might have to pay to get them graded and that would cost more than the coin.

Yes PCGS and NGC grading is comparable. I would stick with those two - but you have to be able to tell a solid strike and grade for the coin. Don't just buy a holder because of the grade on it. See illini's 1908-S grading set - those look like choice coins for the grades. Makes a beautiful set.

    All is just my opinion.
